A few words from the 'Rear'
I hope you have all had a good chance to get some rest over the Christmas break, and have been looking forward to the new sailing season with anticipation.
After a successful season in 2012, the Sailing Committee has been working hard to put together a full calendar of varied events that will keep even the most dedicated sailors occupied for the whole year.
New to the Point-Score Championship is the Daniel Family Trophy, which will be a pursuit race with a staggered start. This is sure to be a popular annual race, as the slower boats will get the chance to show the rest of the fleet home - no doubt there will be a pre-race briefing to confirm the starting procedure.
Also, at the beginning of the season we have tha Wayne Ogilvie Memorial Series which consists of four races, where the intent is to promote family friendly racing - so invite your friends and family and enjoy the ride!
Towards the end of the season we will be holding the inaugural NQCYC Trailable Yacht Series to be known as "The Troppo Cup". We have the perfect arena for this type of event, and with luck and lots of effort (and sponsorship) this could turn into a significant event in our calendar.
I look forward to locking horns with the Airlie mob again this year, and look to build on the great relationship between NQCYC and WSC both competitively and socailly - can we retain the trophy this year?
The handicap system will remain significantly unchanged from last year, as it was generally well received. Any queries or concerns can be taken up with the handicapper who promises to feign deafness only when he is wrong!
In the interest of consistency, at the beginning of the season the individual handicaps for yachts will be adjusted to show some parity with yardstick ratings. Be assured that all of our fleet will be adjusted up or down by the same percentage (essentially the numbers change but the results stay the same). This will have the effect of aligning our handicaps a little better with neighbouring clubs, which makes things a little easier for interclub events.
NQCYC Junior Sailing has gone from strength to strength over the past year thanks to a lot of effort from Kylie and Scott Gummow. Please support them in any way you can.
I'd like to thank all of the race sponsors for their continued patronage from year to year, and please let us know if you wish to race - we will be very pleased for you to crew in the races.
